Captain Connecter Bernardo Klassen

In this first week we were supposed to read until page 71 of "MAUS". In this three chapters, Artie asks his dad to tell him about his overall life and during the WWII. The book reminds about my never known grandfather. He was from Ukraine, but at that time, Ukraine was controlled by the Natzi. My grandfather was born at a German colony. When he turned in the age of 13, he was forced to be part of Hitler's youth army. He almost went to war, but he got a flue and stood home. In a few weeks, he ran away with his mom to Brazil by boat. In the book, Artie's father, Vladek fought for Poland against Germany in Poland's frontier. He was caught by Natzis, and sent to a jew prison. The book also reminds me of a movie called Inglorious Basterds. It reminds of MAUS because the Basterds fought against Natzis during the whole movie, and the last scene of the theater exploding, was awesome.

This is connected to some of the things that we are studying at Humnities. We will be studying about politics and world wide events. And one these events is the Holocaust and the Thrid Reich. Also, wars are happening in Israel against Gaza. This connects to the WWII because the richest and most prepared country is attacking the least prepared country, but eventualy, Israel will fall.

  1. I thought the story about your grandfather was very interesting because my grandfather was also from germany but he fought against Hitler, he was wanted by the government so he had to leave the country as an illegal immigrant and then go by plane to another country.
I think you should focus on writing more interesting thing you thought about the book and re read your post because it has some grammar errors.

  2. I agree with all the connections you made. This also reminded me of the book The Boy in the Striped Pijamas. This book is about a boy who moves to live in a house beside a concentration camp for the Jews because his father was the leader there. The main character meets a Jew on the other side of the fence. The story is based on what they do, the problems they face, etc. This story talks about the holocaust just like Maus. It is really sad to see people get killed just because of their religion...

  3. Congrats on you post Be! It is a really amazing story your family lived. I really like how you connected it Vladek to your grandfather, in a matter of respect he is a very lucky man. Vladek and your grandfather are really connected when it comes to the book MAUS. When you describe the story of you grandfather and how he was taken into the german nazi colony to be trained into a german soldier is really tied together with Vladek. Though, Vladek was not a child, he had to go to war for his countries. He was trained to endure a battle just like your grandfather. I like when you states about the movies The Inglorious Bastards since I have watched it. Be very careful Be, it is a interesting connection but if your going to talk about something get more into it, you could have described it better and more precisely. In the end, I really liked your visual since it connects to what you described in the end of your post. In conclusion you had a good post yet, you could have got more into it.

    Thanks,

    Gui

  4. I am curious how the book is affecting you, Bernardo, given your family's history?
