Victor B - Blog 2

Line Illuminator

Week 2

Maus by Art Spiegelman

“Don’t you know? ALL Jewish businesses have been taken over by ‘Aryan managers’…” (Page 78)

“It was many, many such stories – synagogues burned, Jews beaten with no reason, whole towns pushing out all Jews – each story worse than the other.” (Page 35)

While reading Maus by Art Spiegelman these were two passages that called my attention. They are both related to what the Nazis were doing to Jews during World War II. The Jews' properties were taken away, and they were left with a few options for making a living. Just like in real life, in the book Vladek, one of the characters of the book loses his factory. On the other hand, in the second quote chosen, Vladek hears how Jews were being treated in Germany. They were being victims of violence and were no longer considered full citizens. Both of these quotes have a lot in common because the both talk about what the Nazis were doing to Jews.

  1. Victor, I really enjoyed your post, I think you could have improved in some parts, but over all it was a very god blog, It made me think more about the reading of the book and helped me improve the overall understanding of the book in many different ways.
