I think that this quote is important because it may help us discover why ratios mom committed suicide. It also sort of tells us how it was challenging being a mother at that time.

I really thought that this passage was very interesting because of the way that the grandfather thought of the army. The army must have been a horrible experience for him to be that extreme with his children to not go into the army.
