Job #3 Word Whisperer Felipe Miyake

3rd job: Word Whisperer - Felipe M.

1st word/sentence: page 17 (irony)

      "Pssh! And look at what a beauty you picked."In this sentence, the word "beauty"is ironic.  This word expresses the disgust Lucia had for Anja because she loved Vladek but he was going to get engaged to Anja. This ironic expression effects the reader a lot because it shows the extreme hatred the Lucia had for Anja.

2nd word/sentence: page 19 (simile)

       
       "When I came into their house it was so like a king came ...". In this sentence, "like" is a connection word that indicates that there is use of simile. This sentence expresses that Vladek was received just like a king when he got back to his house after being a war prisoner. The effect that this sentence has on the reader is that it expresses more clearly what is being said.
       


3rd word/sentence: page 15 (simile)

       "We were more involved. So like the youths here today". The connection word "like", in the sentence, indicates that there is use of simile. This sentence expresses that Vladek and his girlfriend, Lucia, had more of a sexual relationship just like young  people nowadays. The effect that this sentence has on the reader is that it expresses their relationship more vividly and in a informal way.


4th word/sentence: page 32 (flashback)

       "I remember when we were almost arriving, we passed a small town...". In the sentence, the word "remember" indicates a memory. This sentence shows Vladek telling his son of when he first saw a natzi flag. The impact this sentence has on the reader is that it shows that Vladek remembers this very well because it is something very important. 




5th word/sentence: page 69 (repetition)

       "you really threw out my coat. I can't believe it. I just can't believe it". In this sentence, the repetition is used to express in a more dramatic way Arties feelings about his father had thrown out his coat. The impact this sentence has on the reader is that it really shows that Artie didn't believe what his father had just done because what he did was to extreme.
