Illustrious Artist
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
Pages 3- 62
Week #4
I chose to draw this because as I read about some characters going to jail and suffering, it really shocked me. Going to jail because they were fighting, standing up for what they believed just seems crazy to me. The fact that they didn't have the liberty of defending themselves in any way is crazy. Usually, majority wins, but in Persepolis, majority turns into minority because they get killed. Also, in jail, they would get hit and tortured for no reason. After all the suffering, they would free the people and they would be able to go home. What shocked me the most was the way their families would treat them afterwards. They would be heroes, everyone would be very proud of them. I think that's because they managed to survive, many died trying to stand up to their beliefs, but whoever made it through alive, was a hero. Some to look up to, and brag about. In a way, I think it's right, because they stayed strong and didn't let anything get to them. But on the other hand, they really didn't do anything to change the situation. The whole reason why they were put in jail, was because they wanted to make a change, but they didn't, so why are they heroes?

Hi Martina
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I don't think that they should be considered heroes. they should be praised for being strong, but individually, none of them are heroes. I think that as a group, they are heroes, because people were fighting also for their freedom, and it gave them something extra to fight for, and that might be why they won the revolution. but as individuals, they are just very strong for having survived all the torture
Martina,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. In the book it shows that many people were put in jail because of what they belief in. I wonder why someone can't have their own thought, their own mind, without being punished if they were incorrect. I think those people were heroes because they stand for what they believed, they went to jail, they were tortured but they but when life put them down they would find a way to get up.
