Risk taking researcher Jason

As our book Maus talks mostly about surviving the holocaust I thought about researching more deeply about that topic. The Holocaust  (from the Greek ὁλόκαυστος holókaustoshólos, "whole" and kaustós, "burnt")was a genocide of approximately 6 million jews committed by the Nazi party. The Holocaust happened during the 1941 until 1945. Jews were targeted and murdered methodically.  In total, approximately 11 million people were killed, including approximately one million Jewish children.Of the nine million Jews who had resided in Europe before the Holocaust, approximately two-thirds were killed. Not only the Jews were targeted by Nazis As Nazi tyranny spread across Europe, the Germans and their collaborators persecuted and murdered millions of other people. Between two and three million Soviet prisoners of war were murdered or died of starvation, disease, neglect, or maltreatment. The Germans targeted the non-Jewish Polish intelligentsia for killing, and deported millions of Polish and Soviet civilians for forced labor in Germany or in occupied Poland, where these individuals worked and often died under deplorable conditions. From the earliest years of the Nazi regime, German authorities persecuted homosexuals and others whose behavior did not match prescribed social norms. German police officials targeted thousands of political opponents (including Communists, Socialists, and trade unionists) and religious dissidents (such as Jehovah's Witnesses). Many of these individuals died as a result of incarceration and maltreatment.

  1. Jason,

Good post. I could see that you were able to research the topic really well.

Now, going into analysis, in your post, you talked about the holocaust and the deaths of millions of Jews. Using what we learned in class, this information is actually correct. To explain the holocaust in different words, the meaning of holocaust is when someone (or more) want to eliminate a race of people, which in this case, were the Jews. Now, just by saying what I learned in class, we can see the information you said is correct because you talked about the elimination of Jews by the Nazis, which is basically the elimination of a race of people.

Another thing I noticed you said was that Germany occupied Poland. By using what I learned in class, Hitler didn't only attack Poland, but other places too. Hitler, using his power (after turning into dictator) invaded lots of places, such as Czechoslovakia. Now this is important because after Hitler's first invasion, he signed a contract promising that he wouldn't invade any more places, but, instead of following the contract, Hitler started to invade other places, totally ignoring the contract.

Next, something that isn't in your post is why the germans decided to eliminate the Jews back then. The answer for this is simple, Hitler. The reason Hitler is the answer is because when he was a candidate to became the next "dictator," his speech was about how he wanted to eliminate the Jews. Going on, this is important because every citizen started to agree with the Nazis (instead of the communists), which lead Hitler to have power, which then lead Hitler to kill millions.

Overall, your post made me think and reflect a lot.

Going into another idea, a question I ask is, did this analysis help you understand more? The reason I ask this is because I explained some things that weren't in your post, and I wanted to know if this helped you.

  2. Jason,

Your researching skills were great. I liked how you put various details and used strong vocabulary.

The fact that approx. 11 million people died is a true misfortune, and out of that 11 million, 1 million children has died. Of the 11 million, 9 millions tries to escape, with 3 million succeeding, and the 6 million failing. This was basically a 2/3 chance of success. I can relate this percentage to me. During a math test, I had struggles where you select 2 correct answers out of four. I eliminated one, and I was left with 3. I had almost 6 minutes taken away because of that one question. In the end, I got the question wrong giving me a total of 88 percent instead of a 90. However my case is very different from the Jew's situation. Having to risk their lives to get away from death. As Joe Louis said, "You can run, but you can't hide."

During WWII, many people died due to very stupid reasons. Killing Jews because Hitler hates them is very similar to the African American Civil Rights Movement. I can relate this to Martin Luther King Jr.'s scenario. Blacks being hated because of their skin color. As Martin Luther King said, "I have a dream." This quote really touched me. People are truly known by the insides, instead of the outsides. Which Hitler refused to believe this and believe the outside.

I also had thoughts while watching Captain America(the movie). As the terrorist organization named "Hydra", plans to take over the world. The group is very fascist in some ways. Hydra could be the Axis while SHIELD is the Allies.
