Connection Captain - Jorge Ribeiro

Book: "Persepolis"

Author: Marjane Satrapi

Rotation #4

pg.1 - 62

As we finished the book Maus, we moved into another one. We moved into the book Persepolis, and already on the first pages I have a lot of connections. I would connect with the movie The Dictator. I connect to this movie because in the book Persepolis, the people don't like the leader, so they keep doing revolutions against him, and that connects to the movie Dictator, because the citizens don't want the dictator, and just like the book they want the country to become a democracy. But on the movie, the Dictator doesn't want a democracy, and therefore the people of his country don't like him. The same idea goes for Shah, they were both hated by their country and did not have control over the people.

My second connection is to the book One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. I connect to this book, because it says on how many were imprisoned, and the idea brought up the connection between both of these books. Many were imprisoned and tortured, and in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich the prisoners kept are tortured but not in the same way. On the prison of Persepolis the torture is with electrical whip and ironing your back, but on One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich the torture is starving and working outside in the cold, so one would be short term torture and the other kind of long term torture, by  One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich be long term and Persepolis short term.
