"Bibi!  Lonia!  Richieu! Come here quickly!"

This drawing is showing when Tosha, was going to kill herself and the three kids instead of going to Auschwitz also known as the gas chambers.  The kids were living in Zawiercie to be safer than they were before.  After a few months after they got sent there, the Germans decided to finish out that ghetto.  They were evacuating Zawiercie, and everyone was supposed to go to the square with their baggage to be sent to Auschwitz.  After Tosha found about the that, she decided to poison herself and the kids instead of being sent to the "gas chambers".

  1. as I was reading this part in my book,I wondered why she would want to poison her kids and herself. Is it really that bad? I felt bad for her and her kids because things will get better in the future eventually, so It made me feel pity for them when they only had this one life on earth, but they decided to take it away, because she had no hope for the future. To me there is always hope. What do think or feel about there decision?

    1. Yeah I was wondering that also. I think she did make a good decision on killing themselves, because I bet they probably would've died anyway. What do you think?

  2. Dear Lexi,
I really liked your blog post! Your picture was a very good representations of that saddening scene. When I was reading this part of the book it was surprising that Tosha would actually do that. I had thought that they might hide or go to Aushiwtitz but the last thing that I would have thought we be them killing themselves. I also like how you incorporated the quote in the picture. Overall you did an awesome Job.

    1. Thanks Sydney! Yeah I thought it was really surprising too, but I thought she made the right decision. Do you think Tosha made the right decision?

  3. I liked what you said about the gas chambers, and the mom that killed her three sons so that they wouldn't suffer as much as they would on the future. I liked that you made your photo dark so it represents your drawing. I liked it

  4. Lexi, this one scene in the book can show us a lot of things. Different people can interpret things differently. I interpret that the aunt carried poison around her neck to protect her. If she was caught by the Germans, she could put poison on them so they would die.
The fact that the aunt kill the kids and herself shows us how bad things were. It was so bad that killing themselves was a better option than being alive. Loosing your life was better than having you life.

    1. Yes, I think it does too. It does show how bad things were, yeah I thought that was really sad that killing themselves would be the better option. If you were Tosha what would you do in that situation?
